The Lord's Prayer

A 10-day prayer focus

Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For yours is the Kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen.

Day 1

Our Father

Focus on God as our Father

Readings

1 John 3:1 – We Are Called His Children

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Matthew 7:9-11 – He Gives Us Good Gifts

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Revelation 21:4-5

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Reflection

Today we focus on God’s love as Father. Reflect on the following ways God demonstrates His Fatherhood

  • He is our protector
  • Our provider
  • Our perfect Father
  • He loves us
  • He cares for us
  • He is a good, good Father.

Day 2

Who art in Heaven

Focus on Heaven

Readings

Revelation 4:2

At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne.

1 Corinthians 2:9

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Revelation 22:1-5

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Reflection

Reflect and meditate on the above passages and thank God.

Day 4

Thy Kingdom come

Focus on God’s Kingdom

Readings

John 18:36

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

Luke 17:20-21

Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

Mark 1:15

And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Romans 14:17

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Daniel 2:44

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever

Reflection

Today we focus on God’s Kingdom. We look at His rule, His Lordship and what His Kingdom looks like.

As you consider these verses, ask God what that means for you personally.

Ask God how you can live out His Kingdom here and now.

Day 5

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Focus on God’s will and purposes on earth

Readings

John 5:19-20

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.

Reflection

Today, focus on God’s will and purposes.

Ask yourself the following question:

“What did it mean for Jesus to only do what the Father does?”

Spend time reflecting on what that means.

Day 6

Give us this day our daily bread

Focus on God’s provision

Reflection

Today, just simply thank God for always providing for you.

Day 7

Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us

Focus on forgiveness

Reflection

Today, spend time asking God if there is anyone you need to forgive.

Day 8

Lead us not into temptation

Focus on the temptations that we face

Readings

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Reflection

There are many ways we can be tempted. Spend time writing some of the ways you are most tempted and give them over to God. One by one, confess them and ask God to help you become an overcomer.

Day 9

Deliver us from evil

Focus on deliverance

Readings

2 Samuel 22:2

He said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
