Mother’s Day

Part 1
Part 1
Mother’s Day
Introduction

This week’s message is centred on love, identity, and the truth that every person is deeply loved by God. Humanity is not accidental or overlooked, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, created intentionally by a loving Father who knows the cost of love and chose us anyway. Pastor Brooke explores how God’s love is the foundation from which we learn to love Him in return and overflow in love toward others. God invites us into a life shaped by love – receiving His love fully and allowing it to transform how we see ourselves, how we love others, and how we live in the world.

Read:
Psalm 139:13-14
Matthew 22:36-40
Exodus 34:5-7
John 15:13
1 John 4:19

Discuss

Leaders: Choose 3 or 4 questions that spark meaningful conversation and discern where God is leading—no need to answer them all.

  1. Living Known – Understanding the Heart of God
Read Exodus 34:5-7. What do these verses reveal about God’s character and the way He relates to His people? God first describes Himself as compassionate and gracious. How does understanding God’s heart shape the way you see yourself and others?
  2. Living Loved – Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Read Psalm 139:13-14. What does this passage teach us about how God sees us? What unique detail has God created in you that you treasure most? What helps you remember that your identity comes from being loved by God rather than from achievement or approval?
  3. Living Responsive – Loving God with All We Are
Read Matthew 22:36-38. What does it look like to love God with your whole life? What practical habits help you grow in your love for God? If you looked at your bank statement or calendar, would they reflect your love of God and others?
  4. Living Overflowing – Loving Our Neighbour
Read Matthew 22:39 and 1 John 4:19. Why is it important to first receive God’s love before loving others? What does it mean to love others as you love yourself? Who has reflected God’s love to you through simple acts of kindness or care?
  5. Living Vulnerably – The Cost of Love
Read John 15:13. Why does real love often involve sacrifice or vulnerability? Where might God be inviting you to choose love over self-protection?

Who’s Your Person of Peace?
Who in your world needs to be reminded that they are deeply loved by God? Perhaps it is someone who feels unseen, discouraged, disconnected, or weary. It may be a family member, friend, neighbour, colleague, or someone carrying pain quietly. Ask God this week to show you how you can reflect His love to them, through encouragement, generosity, prayer, hospitality, or simply being present. Pray for them by name and ask the Holy Spirit to open their heart to experience the love of God personally.

Respond

The Christian life does not begin with striving, but with receiving. Before we are called to serve, sacrifice, or love others, we are first invited to know that we are deeply loved children of God. When we truly receive His love, our identity becomes secure, our worship becomes genuine, and our love for others begins to flow from overflow rather than exhaustion. God does not call us to protect ourselves from the risks of love, but to trust Him enough to love courageously, even when it costs us something. This week, ask yourself: Do I truly know that I am deeply loved by God? How can I intentionally express my love for God and reflect His love to others in practical ways?
