Generosity

Part One      Part Two

Part 1

God’s ways are so often counter-cultural. Everything in our culture encourages us to put ourselves first – to look out for and look after “number 1.”

Why does our culture promote an attitude which ultimately diminishes us all?

We need to be reminded of God’s priorities and the reason behind them. Only the Creator knows how to maximise His creation.

Part 2

It is fascinating to look at how much the Bible talks about money and our attitude to money when it clearly states that God does not need our money. Everything in creation is His. Why then does God sense the need to help us handle our money in a way that will be best for our well being?

Engage with God’s Word

Consider [bible]Psalms 50:9-12[/bible].

Discuss

  1. What do you think about the statement that God does not need our money? Discuss. (Psalms 50:9)
  2. How do we contribute into God’s storehouses and why should we contribute to them? (Malachi 3:10)
  3. What do you allow to define who you are ?
  4. What does it look like to “not lean on our own understanding” in regards our finance? (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  5. Can you do more for God’s kingdom than you currently do?
  6. Do you put more money into your assets than into God’s storehouse?
  7. What does tithing/giving actually do in your heart?

Respond

We do not like being caused to reconsider our giving practices. If all that we have is actually God’s, why do we feel this way? Ask God to examine our hearts regarding our giving practices. (Psalms 139:23-24)
