Live Video

Our team exists to support the overall visual experience.
We have various roles in these areas:

As a camera operator, you will be capturing the events on stage for live projection, as well as recording for our online platforms. You will work under the direction of one of the video directors, who talk to you through the comms and give you guidance. Although the video director often gives specific instructions, there is also plenty of room to take initiative and be creative. You will rehearse during the band rehearsal under the instruction of the video director. During this time you will prepare camera shots, as well as familiarise yourself with the flow of the service. During the service, you will be on duty at a camera. Camera operators are able to experience the worship and the message from their stations in the auditorium. This role requires an operator with a creative eye, and the ability to respond quickly to changes. The main camera operator must have a good attention span to track the hosts and speakers. Once a camera operator demonstrates sufficient proficiency, attentiveness, and responsibility, they can choose to further develop their skills on the stage camera, which is a portable camera that is used on the stage.

As a CG operator, you will be responsible for providing services to the band, video director, and the broader congregation, by controlling the live projected graphics, working alongside the  video director in the upstairs studio. You may also be required to cooperate with another CG operator. Preparation is key to succeeding in this role, and you will prepare the song slides, and assist the singers with song lyrics during band rehearsal. During the service, you will operate the song lyrics for the congregation, display announcement slides, and sometimes operate the speaker’s slides. CG operators are able to listen to the worship and the message from the upstairs studio. This role requires an operator who is familiar with the song lyrics, is ready to come prepared and has the ability to sustain attention on a detailed task. An extraordinary operator in this role will be determined to go the extra mile to deliver high quality services to those who rely on this essential role.

As a CCU operator, you will be working with the video director and camera operators to perform adjustments the projected image. Crossway Youth services often feature dynamic lighting, which necessitates on-the-fly adjustments to the brightness levels. You will rehearse during the band rehearsal to familiarise yourself with the lighting setup. During the service, you will be continuously adjusting the image, with a break during the message. You will be able to listen to the worship and the message from the upstairs studio. This role requires an operator who has a good attention to detail.

As a video director, you will be responsible for directing all images projected in the auditorium as well as recordings. During rehearsal time, you will work with camera operators to refresh their skills and familiarise yourselves as a team with the service. You are responsible for ensuring that the live vision and recording system is ready for the service (e.g. testing video playbacks). During the service, you will switch cameras, video, and CG to the projection, providing the whole auditorium with a clear view of the stage. The video director will provide training for the assistant, and you will work together as a team to deliver a high quality visual experience to auditorium. You will be able to listen to the worship and message from the upstairs studio. This role requires an operator with the ability to multitask, communicate clearly, and a creative eye. Video directors should be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency as camera operators, CG operators, and CCU operators. A team member’s ability to follow team expectations as described in this manual is important when they are considered for this role. Due to the increased level of responsibility and technical knowledge required for the VD role, it is typically reserved for leaders. We may consider youth who has sufficient experience in the VDA role or at a weekend service.
