Life was tough for Robert, an older man living locally who was experiencing hardship like never before in his life. Every aspect of his life was affected and he could not see a way out. Robert has a Christian background, but had distanced himself from church over time.

“I felt trapped with no way out of my misery.  I honestly could not see a way out of my problems. I was stressed and irritable.”

It is hard to comprehend what Robert was going through in this time of helplessness and despair. On top of everything, the COVID-19 pandemic was causing him further stress, and Robert was feeling that God had let him down as well.

“I felt even God had let me down and felt very, very depressed.”

Robert had never been to Crossway, but when it all became too much for him he remembered that his brother-in-law went there, so he looked up Crossway on the internet and got in touch via the Care request on our website.

“The care, concern and support shown by them really lifted my spirits up. I then realised, God had not let me down, but he is lifting me up from my state of despair. This brought back my trust in God.”

Like a beacon of light, the Crossway team came into his life. Pastor Carolyn gave support through regular telephone calls to check in on the family and to pray with Robert through this challenging time. The community pantry also played a practical part and delivered grocery hampers. Robert has even been inspired to reconnect with his faith, praise God! Robert’s family was moved and touched by the generosity shown by Crossway.

“The kindness has had a profound effect on the way I see life. It has even inspired me to reconnect with my faith.”

Robert rarely attended church in the past, but recently watched the Easter service and is now regularly watching the Sunday service at 10:15am.

“I am feeling more confident and strongly believe that God will help me to overcome this hardship. I have found my path back to God. I cannot put into words how much this means to me.”

Thanks to your support, we are able to continue helping people in tough places. We are delivering food hampers to people in isolation or under financial pressure. We are helping families with computers so that they continue schooling during this time.  And pastors and counsellors are making phone calls for a regular chat or where help is needed. As well as meeting other unique requests, we are doing our best to help.

Without your support, who would Robert and his family turn to?

This is why I am asking you to help raise $500,000 before June 30, because people in tough places like Robert shouldn’t have to face these struggles alone.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, and please continue to pray for Robert and his family.
